Historical Significance: The National Vision Research Institute of Australia was founded in 1972 after a successful fund raising from optometrists, the optical industry and other sources from 1968 to 1972. Its constitution established a membership open to all who wished to join. The first members were called the foundation members and those of them that had already made donations to the appeal were admitted to membership without paying the first year subscription. They were issued with a certificate of membership.
