Description Of Item: Seven documents being various versions of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Victorian College of Optometry: (1) Foolscap size paper, 12 pages, duplicated typescript of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Victorian College of Optometry dated 29 December 1939 but actually a version dating from the early 1960s since it refers to the Victorian College of Optometry, the name to which the Australian College of Optometry changed in 1960 (2) 1970 Foolscap duplicated typescript, 11 pages, dated 'Up to date 30.4.1968 Amended 29.4.1970' and initialled jsc, (3) 1974 Stiff green card cover with window for title, spirex bound, 10 pages of duplicated typescipt, dated May 1 1974, (4) 1991 Stiff green card covers, stapled, printed document 13 paginated pages plus title page dated May 29 1991, and (5) 1997 Stiff white card covers with colour crest of the College, stapled, printed document 13 paginated pages dated 28 May 29 1997 (6) Constiiution of the College (now called Australian College of Optometry) adopted May 26 2015, and (7) Constitution of the College adopted May 24 2017
Historical Significance: The first Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Victorian College of Optometry were adopted on 29th December 1939 (when it was founded as the Australian College of Optometry) and have undergone changes over the years as the goals, functions, name and needs of the College changed.
