Description Of Item: Four issues of the Australian Manufacturing Jewellers Watchmakers and Opticians Gazette for May 1 1937, August 1 1940, January 1 1941 and February 1 1941. Also loose pages: pp 43 and 44 from Sept 1 1930 issue, pp 23 and 24 June 1 1932 issue and pp 19 to 29 August 1 1932.
Historical Significance: This publication is mostly directed to jewellers and watchmakers but carries some material of optometric interest. Issue 35 (8) May 1 1937 carries two items about orthoptics not being a part of the practice of optometry and a report of the Victorian Optical Association April 1937 meeting. Issue 38 (11) 1940 carries the annual report of the Victorian Optical Association for 1940 referring to the Australian College of Optometry and the effects of the war among other topics. Issue 39 (4) and (5) 1941 carry articles from Ernest Jabara about the founding of the Australian College of Optometry in 1940 and news from the Victorian Optical Association. The loose pages carry a report of CW Kett being elected President of the Victorian Optical Association (p44 Sept 1 1930); a report of the 21th year of the VOA and forthcoming celebrations (23 June 1 1932; and a report of the success of the VOA and the actual celebrations including the story of Mr Bell's car being stolen
