Description Of Item: Large folio album, grey cloth covers, grey card pages with gilt edges pasted on which are numerous clippings of articles and illustrations from magazines and newspapers on the history of optics and spectacles including on the last pages newspaper clippings of cartoons of optometry jokes. One cartoon is an original pencil drawing with the ink notation 'This happened during an examination CWK' and dated in ink 1931.
Historical Significance: Cyril Kett (1885-1971) was one of the founders of the Australian College of Optometry and a long serving councillor of the College. He had a strong interest in the history of optometry and his personal collection of artefacts forms the foundation of this museum. This was his personal historical scrap book. It contains numerous engravings and paintings held in the British Optical Association museum that were printed by the trade journal The Dioptic Review or were especally printed on the Press of the British Optical Association and mounted on on card. Some are in colour. Of particular interest are three mint postage stamps issued by Egypt to commemorate the XV Ophthalmological Congress in 1937.
