Historical Significance: The Optometrists Registration Board of Victoria was established by the enactment of the Opticians Registration Act by the Parliament of Victoria in late 1935. The Board was formed in 1936 and this seal press would have been purchased in that year although the seal impression has been changed to read 'Optometrists Registration Board of Victoria' when the name of the Board was changed in 1996. The Board was dissolved in July 2010 when the Commonwealth Government Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 came into effect on 1 July 2010. Under this Act registration of the health professions became a national function.
