Historical Significance: The Optometric Vision Research Foundation ( Australia) was founded by Brien Holden in 1973 to raise funds for optometric research. At the time Brien Holden was a lecturer in the Department of Optometry at the UNSW where he remained, becoming Scientia Professor in 2001. The Foundation and the Contact Lens and Cornea Research Unit, also established by Brien Holden, provided the first stepping stones in a complex of very significant research and social service organisations created by Holden.
