Description Of Item: Black and white glossy photograph, 159 x 254 mm, of a hydraulic ophthalmic equipment stand with one side arm table carrying a synoptophore and another a small trial lens set, an arm carrying a refractor head on which is fixed a near point chart slide and at the top of the stand is an anglepoise examination lamp.
Historical Significance: The origins of this photograph are unknown but the equipment photographed and the wall decorations indicate that it was taken in the 1930s. It is typical of optometric equipment of the time except that few optometrists would have had a synoptophore.
