Professor Barry Cole AO

Historical Significance: Professor Cole was the foundation Professor of Optometry in the University of Melbourne 1978 to 1999 and was the first full time Director of the Victorian College of Optometry 1964 - 1998. He held these posts at a time of great change in the profession of optometry, particularly in the education of optometrists and the emergence of a significant research capability, in which Professor Cole played an important role. This photograph was taken by Sandra Shaw, Editor of Australian Optometry, for an article on Professor Cole's election as an honorary life member of the Optometrists Association Australia.
