Description Of Item: Light brown foolscap size manila folder containing typed notes for lectures 1 to 12 in the subject Visual Optics (later called Anomalies of the Dioptric System) in the optometry course of the Australian College of Optometry. The typed notes are extensively annotated in hand writing and some pages are entirely handwritten. The folder is inscribed 'Misc student lectures' which is struck out, and ' Anomalies of the Dioptic System and exam papers 1947 -' The first lecture is headed 'Visual Optics' which is struck out and replaced by 'Anomalies of the Dioptric System' in handwritten caps.
Historical Significance: The attribution of these notes as being lecture notes of John Nathan is based on the fact that the 1947 annual report of the College records, in the Director of Studies report for the year, that John Nathan was the lecturer in the third year subject of Visual Optics. John Nathan had completed his LOSc diploma in the College in 1944 and had subsequently completed a BSc degree. The handwritten notes are recognisably in John Nathan's hand and the material was donated by John Nathan. The examination papers originally in the folder have been catalogued separately (Cat No 1714).
