Description Of Item: Original black cloth covers, 178 pages, 66 figures in text . Signature of former owner J Neilson and embossed sticker for bookseller Watson Victor, New Zealand on front fly leaf.
Historical Significance: Frank Twyman FRS FInstPhys, was a President of the Optical society, and worked for Hilger He designed spectroscopes and an interferometer (The Tywman Green interferometer pictured) that bears his name. He wrote a number of books on spectroscopy and spectrophotometry and prisms. The Museum also as the much revised and enlarged second edition of 1952 (Cat No 1813) and a copy of Twyman's book on Optical Glass Working 1955 Cat No 341.
How Acquired: Donated by Family of N Jack Neilson, who worked with Australian Optical Company Ltd in Melbourne in the mid 20thC
