Description Of Item: Cardboard file storage box, 37.5 cm L, 14 cm W, 25 cm H, brown colour, labelled on front face 'File storage box Contents, Examinations From 1946 to 1965', containing separate files for each of the years form 1946 to 1958 plus two files labelled 'Examinations 1962' and 'Examinations 1965'. The former file is only to do with the organisation of the examinations. The latter file contains examination papers and results as well as papers to do with the Failures Committee.
Historical Significance: This file box contains detailed examination results for students of the optometry course of the Australian College of Optometry for the period 1946 to 1958 when the course was 4 years full-time and lead to the diploma of Licentiate of Optometric Science. The two additional files for 1962 and 1965 are for when the course was provided by the University of Melbourne and lead to the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science. The earlier files contain examination results for some students who were later to be leaders in the profession including Bruce Besley, David Cockburn, John Strachan, Geoff Henry, Barry Collin and Barry Cole.
