Description Of Item: Two letterheads, 126 x 230 mm, one for the Victorian Optical Association and one for the Australian College of Optometry, both giving the address as 177 Collins Street. The president of the Australian College of Optometry is given as Professor Arthur Amies. The president of the VOA is given as FCH Werner.
Historical Significance: Of interest is that both organisations share the same address, 177 Collins Street, and they have similar crests (coat of arms). The Australian College of Optometry was founded in 1940 and Professor Amies became its president in 1945. Its crest was adopted in 1940. This sample of letterhead probably dates from 1945. FCH Werner was president of the VOA 1938 to 1943, although he served a second term from 1951 to 1954.
