Reversible spectacle frame with colour-coded sides
Category: Spectacles and lenses
Sub-Category: Spectacles, reversible
Time Period: 1900 to 1939
Description Of Item: Round eye reversible spectacles, gold coloured metal. The spectacles have two special special characteristics. Firstly the temples are designed to allow the curl section to rotate through 360 degrees. Secondly there is a floating supplementary bridge. A monocular patient could have a distance prescription lens fitted in one eye of the frame and the reading prescription in the other eye. The spectacles can then be readily turned upside down to cope with distance and near vision in one frame. W:11cm x 3.6 cm eyesize. The sides are covered rubber-like tubular material, the right side green and the left red, presumably to signal to the user the orientation of the frame.
