Seven large black and white photographs of the refitted practice. Also filed with this article is a colour photocopy of the certificate of admission to Freedom of the City of London of Fred Werner on December 7th 1910. Historical Significance: C Werner and Sons was well known Melbourne optometry practice established originally in Ballarat by Carl Werner (b1852) in the late 1800s and moved to Collins Street, Melbourne in the early 1900s, where it was carried on by his sons Fred, Roy and Max. The practice was refurbished in the early 1930s in high art deco style, which this article describes. The architect was Edward Billson ARAIA. Fred Werner qualified in optometry in London, obtaining his Fellowship of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers in 1910. Persons admitted to one of the Guilds of London where entitled to the Freedom of the City of London.
