Description Of Item: Two A4 pages of typewritten notes (incomplete) about Victorian optometrist Derek Gardiner who served a term as President of the Victorian Division of the Australian Optometrical Association
Historical Significance: These notes were prepared by David Cockburn at the request of College Fellow, Wolf Gartner, who at the time was compiling background information of the presidents of the Victorian Optical Association (later Victorian Division of the Australian Optometrical Association). Gardiner (b1926) and Cockburn (pictured) were fellow students in the College in the early 1950s after they had returned from war service in the RAN during World War 2. The notes tell a story of student activism on the matter of recognising overseas optometry qualifications and how they came in to dispute with the College Council because the students used the College address in their circular to optometrists.
