Historical Significance: Rod Baker graduated in optometry at the University of Melbourne in 1988 and worked in a country practice for 3 years that included a stint helping to develop optometry services in Papua New Guinea. He joined the clinical staff of the Australian College of Optometry in 1992 and developed his skills in low vision by working in the low vision clinic at Kooyong and completing a certificate in low vision. He also worked in the children's clinic of the College and became head of the College's paediatric services in 1994. He became much involved in teaching paediatric optometry in the undergraduate optometry course at the University of Melbourne and in continuing education. He designed the first graduate module in paediatric optometry for the University's post-graduate diploma in advanced clinical optometry. He is a member of the Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists. He has been in private practice since 2001 in which he specialises in paediatric optometry.
