Description Of Item: Wooden trial case covered in black leatherette. Hinged lid & 2 swinging bolt clasps. Purple velvet lining (that inside lid is a later replacement). Contains spherical lenses only; pairs of convex & concave 0.25 DS to 7.00DS. Each lens in 38mm metal rim; concave lenses gold coloured rims, convex:silver. Case is labelled with lens powers in dioptres & focal length in inches. Contains 2 simple trial frames; nickel alloy half-eye, simple arch bridge, straight sides. Also includes reading card 'The earth....' stamped on reverse 'George A Rees Pty Ltd'. Case dimensions: L:31.4cm x D:17.0cm x H:6.5cm.
Historical Significance: Lens powers specified in dioptres and inches suggests a date in the late nineteenth century.
