Description Of Item: Small wooden trial case with hinged lid & 2 hook clasps. Lid lined with red velvet. Spherical lenses only, without rims, plus & minus 0.25 to 8.0D. Each lens engraved with its power in focal length in inches. Case has lens powers printed in gold letters on black shown in both dioptres and inches. Simple single cell half-eye trial frame with thin straight sides. Dimensions: L:21.3cm x W:15.0cm x H:4.5cm.
Historical Significance: This case's early age (c1880) is indicated by the powers shown in inches and the lack of cylindrical lenses.
