AVRO 2012' A date tag dates the photographs as May 8 2012. Historical Significance: These three optometrists were part of a class of 5 students that completed their course in 1962 and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science in the University of Melbourne and the diploma of Licentiate of Optometry of the Victorian (now Australian) College of Optometry. They had enrolled in the diploma course of the College but were transferred with advanced standing to the then new degree course in optometry at the University when it was established in 1961. These three were remarkable in that all of them pursued distinguished academic careers overseas. Bailey became a highly respected reseacher and teacher in low vision; Adams pursed a very successful research career and became Dean of the the optometry school at the University of California at Berkeley; while Mitchell became Professor of Psychology at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada and a distinguished vision scientist.
