Description Of Item: Unbound A4 sheets, colour printed, collected by a steel paper fastener. The Atlas is divided into three sections divided by heavy light green card, (1) Spring and rigid bridge pince-nez (65 pp) (2) Astigmatic pince-nez (30 pp) (3) Finger piece pince-nez (18 pp). The Atlas contains over 550 illustrations of pince-nez with a short description of each that includes the date of manufacture, the manufacturer and where known, the patent number
Historical Significance: Pince-nez were widely used from about 1840 to about 1940. There is a wide variety of designs of pince-nez that are comprehensively illustrated in this book. The author is a long-time member of the International Ophthalmic Antiques Collectors' Club. He was assisted by fellow members Ronald MacGregor, John Dixon-Salt, Willem Banninga and David Fleishman.
