Description Of Item: Plastic box 110 mm x 57 mm x 30 mm with translucent base and black lid containing 30 35 mm coloured slides. A folded note visible through the base of the box has 'Slides-Vision + Vision Problems in Children' hand-written in ball point pen. Slides illustrate refractive errors and their correction and possible signs of problems with vision. Slides are numbered ES1 to ES6 and 1 to 28 (Slide 4 missing). Slides ES1 to ES6 show aspects of the vision examination, Slides 1 to 28 illustrate myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism and their correction, accommodation, further aspects of the vision examination, possible signs of visual stress, appearance of scenes for students suffering visual problems, the visual pathways and binocular vision.
Historical Significance: These sets of slides were supplied on request to optometrists to assist in public education about optometry and its services. A suggested script was also available to guide the speaker.
