Description Of Item: Unglazed two-toned (shadow blue) plastic Amelia women's spectacle frame,decorative silver metal corner trims, saddle bridge, hockey temples. Right temple marked Martin Wells Amelia, left temple marked FRAME AUSTRALIA 140 (=temple length), back of rim marked 46/24 (= frame size). Overall size of frame 135 x 40 mm.
Historical Significance: Established in 1954, Martin Wells was an Australian spectacle frame manufacturer founded by businessman Sidney Sinclair, optometrist Eric Hurst and Dino Zingarelli, a spectacle frame designer. Martin Wells produced a range of spectacles frames in the 1950s that were highly popular, ushering a new fashion era into spectacles in Australia.
