Historical Significance: In 1979 the Australian Optometrical Association (now Optometry Australia) established National Children's Vision Week (NCVW) as Australian Optometry's contribution to UNESCO's International Year of the Child. This manual was prepared as a service to members. The NCVW programme also provided members with other resources including educational materials for parents and teachers, public talks, and activities for children. It was very successful in raising the profile of optometrists' important and valuable role in the paediatric eye care of Australian children and the manual was made available for many years subsequently.
