Description Of Item: Silver rimless frame, semi hexagonal lenses mounted to bridge and brow bar with single screws, decorative engraving on bridge piece and temples, mother of pearl nose pads, cable temples, glazed.ARTCRAFT 1/10 12K GF on bridge and on right temple. Left temple has been replaced by an adjusted similar right temple stamped BARWYN, a little known Australian company ('BARWYN' is upside down). Overall size 110 mm x 60 mm, frame size 44/20.Accompanying brown spectacle case, probably not the original one, stamped W.E. Bennett, Spectacle Makers, 110 Collins St, Melbourne in gold lettering.
Historical Significance: The Artcraft Optical Company was founded in 1918 by Swiss toolmaker Charles J Eagle. Artcraft is notable for being the first producer of cable temple glasses, developed when the the company worked with the US military during WW1.
