Description Of Item: Translucent glass plate 207 mm x 225 mm with black plastic tape surround depicting nine images of decreasing sizes as a visual acuity test to assess children's vision. Images are of a girl with bucket and spade, a steamship, a boy running, a wheelbarrow, a ball, a rabbit, a shoe, a key and a bicycle. See Cat. Nos. 4220 and 4264
Historical Significance: This plate was made to fit the slide fitting in the bottom left of the illuminated test chart (Cat. No. 4220) made by Brian Banks and used by Margaret Banks who specialised in children's vision. The images were probably photographically transferred on to one glass plate and a second plate secured on top with plastic tape to protect the images.
