Ridged texture on straight nasal margins of eyerims. left eyepiece has 2 small protrusions for finger grip. Right eyerim has a small ring loop for a cord. Small gold pin to secure folded pince-nez or to locke the specs in position in the case. Leather kidney-shaped slip-in case marked in gilt: 'CALLAGHAN LONDON / 23A NEW BOND ST. CORNER OF CONDUIT ST'. Rear of case has gilt impressed logo of a ringed circle, perhaps a planet with a ring. Lenses R: +1.75/-0.75x5 L:+2.25/-0.75x3. Size: W:98mm x H:61mm. Historical Significance: An 1895 advertisement for W Callaghan Optician, 23A New Bond Street, London states 'By Appointment H.R.H. the Prince of Wales'.
