Slip-in case with open top covered in crocodile skin and lined with light brown velvet. Foliate silver mount on case is attached by two suspension chains to a round foliate bos with a rear clip to allow the case to be tucked in to a belt or waistband.. The clip bears hallmarks of lion passant (ie British Sterling silver), date letter 'M' for 1895, and makers' mark 'CS*FS' for Cornelius Saunders & Francis Shepherd. Leather case: 174mm L x 35mm W x 14mm D. Length including suspension clasp: 220 mm. Historical Significance: When first acquired, this case contained a pair of American silver spectacles, c1850, Cat No 4287 How Acquired: Donated by Michael Aitken Date Acquired: July 2022 Condition: Very good.
