Description Of Item: Silver oval-eye American spectacles with scroll bridge and fine straight loop ended temples. Outside of right temple stamped 'PURE COIN', ie 90% silver, 10% other metals in alloy. Outside of left temple stamped '30', which would originally have indicated focal length. However, both lenses measure +5.50 DS.Dimensions: 136mm W x 27mm H. These spectacles were housed in an English crocodile skin chatelaine case when acquired.
Historical Significance: When first acquired, these spectacles were housed in a crocodile skin and silver chatelaine case hallmarked 1895 Chester, Cat No 4286
