Historical Significance: Professors Hamano and Ruben were both significant experts in the theory and fitting of contact lenses. At the time of publication Prof. Hamano was Assistant Professor at Osaka Medical School and Visiting Professor at Louisiana State University School of Medicine and Director of the Japan Contact Lens Council and Contact Lens Society.Prof. Ruben was Consultant Ophthalmologist and former director of the Department of Contact Lenses and Prosthetics at Moorfield's Eye Hospital and Visiting Professor at the Ophthalmic and Optic Department at the City University, London.
