Description Of Item: Cardboard box 85 mm x 66 mm x 20 mm containing three glass artificial eyes mounted in cotton wool. One of the prostheses is a thin shell with a small section missing, the others more solid in construction. The box has a label imprinted 'FINGER-PIECE EYEGLASSES' with details of the original contents parameters and a logo with an A encircled with O and larger diameter C. The note is written by Isabel Foster to Helen Robbins offering the artificial eyes 'to go into the 'Historical ......' section of your establishment'. Helen was working at the Victorian College of Optometry at the time. One of the artificial eyes was returned to Garth Foster's granddaughter to add to her extensive records of him (24/04/2023). Details of her extensive research can be found elsewhere on this catalogue
Historical Significance: Isabel Foster is an artist and a retrospective of her work is available on Youtube. The prostheses were made for her father-in-law who lost an eye in the Gallipoli Landing in 1915 and would have been made in England.The box may have been provided by the original maker for storage purposes.
