Description Of Item: Round hand cut 50 mm dia. pale pink tinted meniscus lens in packet, -25 written in pencil (-0.25D). SHURON-AUSTRAL/WIDESITE/OPHTHALMIC LENS printed in black on buff coloured background. SPECTRATONE in white on red background. Decorative emblem in top corner on black side panel, with QUALITY BEYOND COMPAREprinted below.
Historical Significance: Shuron-Austral lenses were made in the U.S.A. by Shuron Optical, established in 1865, and distributed by the Australian Optical Co. Ltd. (A.O.C) in Australia. As well as importing lenses , The Australian Optical Company also manufactured lenses in Australia. It was taken over by Australian Optical Holdings Ltd. in 1956. (Also see Cat. # 4332 ).
