Items are individually numbered, but two different numbering systems have been used, one by the original donor, Alexander Anderson-Ross, one by Charles Wright, the AOA historian. 9 of the items are related to John Anderson Ross: Two photographs (1888 & 1922), an account for tuition services from Watson Heine, a handwritten notebook-Notes on Optics, a share certificate for Australian Optical Company (24/8/1917), a small folded envelope with a patient's high myopic prescription and prismatic correction of exophoria (2??) and cataphoria (11?) and three textbooks owned by him - Ophthalmic Medicine and Surgery 1865 (Index and colour plates only) [Kett Museum has complete copy Cat. No. 1786], Eye Defects-How to Correct Them Knowles R H [Kett Museum Cat. Nos. 3225, 4107] and Lewis' Pocket Optical Dictionary 3rd edition 1909. [Kett Museum Cat. Nos. 557 (9th ed.), 559 (6th ed.), 560 (7th ed.), 4124(3rd ed.).Five items relate to Alexander Anderson Ross: A letter advising of success in Institute of Optometrists examination (8/3/1922), Institute of Optometrists N.S.W. Certificate (23/10/1929), N.S.W. Registration Certificate (No. 245, 21/5/1933), Burwood practice letterhead and business card and a folder containing a number of notices of meetings including the AGM of the I.O. N.S.W., a page of the Commonwealth Jeweller and Watchmaker, and a letter to the Sydney Morning Herald regarding hygiene and readymade spectacles.Also included is an envelope in Charles Wright's hand listing some of the items with comments and an advertising brochure from Bertram Adcock with pencilled comments on retinoscopy technique. Historical Significance: John and Alexander Anderson Ross were father and son optometrists in Sydney from late 19th century. The initial N.S.W. Optometrists Register lists Anderson-Ross, John as No. 48 at 127 King Street, Sydney, dated 16/4/1931 and Ross, Alexander Anderson as No. 245 at 34 Railway Parade, Burwood, dated 21/5/1931. The 1936 Register lists Anderson-Ross, John at 1 Victoria Street, Ashfield and Anderson-Ross, Alexander at 34 Railway Parade, Burwood. Both were Fellows of the N.S.W. Institute of Optometrists. [F.I.O.(N.S.W.)]Bertram Adcock was an optometrist in Sydney (Reg. No. 46, 16/4/1931). Cataphoria refers to the amount visual axes turn downwards when visual stimulus is removed.
