Unnumbered black and white illustrations and diagrams in text. 150 mm x 92 mm x 12 mm. Book plate of Wright Library of the Australian Optometrical Association on front fly leaf, hand-written notes on back flyleaf and page headed 'MEMORANDUM
Historical Significance: This book went to at least 9 editions. The museum also has the 3rd, 6th, 7th and 9th editions.Later editions were titled with the word 'Ophthalmic' in place of 'Optical'. The author was a professor of optometry at the Northern Illinois College of Ophthalmology and Otology. This handbook was a useful dictionary and encyclopaedia for ophthalmic practitioners and gives a scope of the professions at that time.
