Historical Significance: The Australian College of Optometry was founded in 1940 to provide a four-year full-time university-level optometry course, the first in Australia. The course became a degree course of the University of Melbourne in 1960 and the College affiliated to the University of Melbourne in 1961. The College continued to be involved in teaching the university course, especially for clinical training. It changed its name to the Victorian College of Optometry in 1960 but reverted to its original name in 2009. The annual reports include (with the exception of the earliest but see Cat Nos 970 and 1712) the officers of the College, the financial reports, the graduates and the activities and achievements of the College in each year.
