Description Of Item: Thick cardboard brown covers bound together in book form by 2 brown metal screw attachments. Contains many lined exercise book pages with pasted-on, brown envelopes, appearing to have been reconstructed from some other publication. 'SATTLER'S CARDS' written in ink on side of pages (there is no spine). First page has a pasted sheet with 'Printed in Germany' and 'Buchdruckerei Gottlieb Holoch,Stuttgart-W' that has been cut from another publication. Second page has an envelope containing a centimetre scale, next 14 pages have 4 envelopes each attached holding pairs of stereoocards (some missing). The simple black and white images on the cards are designed to be of interest to children.
Historical Significance: In 1927 Carl Hubert Sattler (1880-1953) produced an inexpensive set of stereoscope cards for the diagnosis and treatment of juvenile strabismus at home, which was subsequently widely translated and reprinted.
