Description Of Item: Two kits containing white cardboard sheets that fold into Pigeon Cantonnet type stereoscopes. Cardboard is folded to make a septum with attached support flaps at the base of each 'wing'. 'FOLDING MIRROR STEREOSCOPE / Copyright 1976 / Victorian College of Optometry' and a scale in prism dioptres printed on cardboard in black. One kit includes a small mirror to be attached to one of the 'wings'.This is missing from the other kit. Included in the kits are 11 pages of targets and instructions including the article 'Origami Stereoscope' published in Aust J. Optom, Jan 1979. 300 mm x 280 mm.
Historical Significance: The Pigeon Cantonnet stereoscope is a very useful instrument for anti-suppression, Cheiroscopic and fusional vergence training. The VCO mass-produced cardboard stereoscopes to supply to clinic patients at a low cost.
