Description Of Item: Blue plush covered metal snap case 92 mm x 67 mm x 35 mm with blue plush and white satin lining containing gold coloured medal diameter 50 mm and 4 mm thick with suspension rings attached. The medal depicts, centrally, a profile image of J. Lloyd Hewett with 'FOR EXCELLENCE IN OPTOMETRY/J. LLOYD HEWETT MEDAL' embossed around the circumference on the obverse and 'OPTOMETRIC VISION RESEARCH FOUNDATION/ PRESENTED TO' and a wreath design around the circumference of the reverse. Historical Significance: Lloyd Hewett was a Sydney based optometrist who was Editor of the Australian Journal of Optometry, the precursor of Clinical and Experimental Optometry for 18 years and Associate Editor before that. He was also a leader and teacher in contact lens practice. It was disbanded in 2014
