Description Of Item: Postcard of a self-portrait of Jean-Simeon Chardin (1699 - 1779) wearing spectacles. Painted in 1771 held in the Louvre, Paris. 150 x 105 mm. Sent by Michael Aitken to Professor Barry Cole and the Archive Team in 2018 from Paris.
Historical Significance: The artist started wearing spectacles because of 'failing eyesight'. This caused him to give up using oil paints and resort to using pastels in the last decade of his life.
