Description Of Item: Black cardboard box 210 mm x 260 mm containing plaque of bevelled glass 215 mm x 255 mm on a plastic backing with inscription 'Tony Adams Eminent Service Award presented to Ian L. Bailey, OD, MS, DSc, FCOptom, FAAO for his service to the Academy 2023' with the logo of, and heading AMERICAN ACADEMY of OPTOMETRY, all on a black background partially bordered by a gold stripe and mottled green.
Historical Significance: This is the inaugural Tony Adams Eminent Service Award presented by the American Academy of Optometry. Professor Anthony (Tony) Adams graduated in optometry at the University of Melbourne (BAppSc Hons) and the Victorian College of Optometry (LOSc) in 1962. He did his PhD degree at Indiana University and was recruited to the academic staff of the School of Optometry at the University of California at Berkeley in 1968. There he became professor (1980) and Dean of the School (1992-2001). The Eminent Service Award of the American Academy of Optometry was renamed in his honour following his death in 2022.
