Description Of Item: Clinical thermometer in cardboard cylinder with pull-off end. Temperature scale from 90 - 110 degrees F, with red '3' at 103 degrees. Printed along length 'CYRIL WOODFORDE KETT OPTOMETRIST MELBOURNE MADE IN ENGLAND'. Case: 222 x 13mm. Thermometer: 195 x 8mm.
Historical Significance: Bears the name of Cyril Kett, but its clinical application is not clear. It may have been produced as advertising to give to doctors. Cyril Henry Woodford Kett (1890 - 1971) FBOA Higher Diploma FSMC was one of the five people who signed the Articles of Association of the Australian College of Optometry in 1939. He was a councillor of the College from 1940 to 1970 and first Vice President 1944 to 1947. He was made an honorary life member of the College in 1954.
