Description Of Item: Instrument to make facial measurements for fitting spectacles, made of metal, glass and white celluloid plastic. Calibrated to measure monocular PD's, frame tilt, bridge position and bifocal height, and marked 'PAT. No 208028'. The British Patent GB208028A, lodged January 4, 1923, is titled 'An improved instrument for taking the facial measurements required for fitting the frames of spectacles and eyeglasses.' Size: W: 1893mm x H: 85mm x D: 57mm.
Historical Significance: Believed to have been in the Kett collection before 1988, but not recorded.
