Historical Significance: Access Economics, a noted economic consultancy firm, was commissioned by the Australian Optometrical Association to produce a report that showed the savings to the Government and the community resullting from optometry's inclusion in the national health scheme (Medicare).The report was used in the Association's lobbying efforts and proved particularly valuable in 1993 when the Assocaiton successfully fought to halt the Government's efforts to remove optometry from the national health program.
