Description Of Item: White plastic rectangular contact lens mailing case 45 mm x 28 mm x 5 mm with label affixed to underside bearing 14.0 7.8 imprinted and -4.00 LM 38 #23 handwritten containing clear lens overall diameter 10 mm which is in fact a dehydrated hydrophilic lens with overall diameter 14 mm. Historical Significance: Hydrophilic lenses were manufactured from buttons of polyhema material and hydrated to produce the finished lens. In the early days of soft lenses each batch of material could have a different expansion coefficient and this had to be considered in calculating the dry parameters of the lens to achieve the required final result
