Photosensitive cell hinges up, impressed beneath 'WESTON *PHOTRONIC CELL MODEL 856 TYPE 5, COLOR CODE .. *TRADEMARK'. Dial display includes serial No 3301. Faint imprint on base '2 1964'. Case closed: 175mm W x 86mm D x 48mm H. Historical Significance: This light meter was probably used by the Industrial Division of Coles & Garrard to assess workplace lighting levels. Edward Weston founded his company in 1888 and started manufacturing general instrumentation in Newark, New Jersey. A British factory was opened in Enfield a year later.
