Description Of Item: Hinged shallow timber box, with brass clip fastener, to hold spare parts for spectacles. Top face of box printed with 'UNISOL', 'L'AMY' and a L'Amy logo. Tucked inside lid of box is a printed card headed 'SCREW AND LOCKNUT UTILIZATION,' 'L'AMY'and 'No2 01.10.76'. Card gives details for various model frames of sides, adjustable nose pads, glazing, miscellaneous parts, spring joints and locknuts. Box size 255mm x 200mm x 32mm.
Historical Significance: L'Amy is a French eyewear manufacturer founded by Louis Felix Lamy in 1810. The firm supplied frames to Switzerland and Italy and in 1879 began exporting frames to Australia, winning awards at exhibitions in Sydney and in Melbourne in 1880. The company continued to modernise and expand its overseas operations throughout the 20th century and remains one of the last remaining French eyewear manufacturers in existence.
