Historical Significance: Tweezers were designed to handle soft contact lenses. The silicone tips reduced the chance of damage. An extended flat section at the top assisted in removing metal caps from contact lens vials. Contamac Ltd. was founded in 1987 by John McGregor as a manufacturer of contact lens and intraocular lens materials - polymers, buttons, machining parts, and distributor of patient contact lens accessories. It remains as one of the main sources of contact lens and IOL materials with manufacturing sites in the USA and China
