Historical Significance: Proclear Multifocal Contact Lenses were of both Centre Distance and Centre Near design and monthly disposable. The D on the lens labels indicates the Centre Distance design.Omafilcon A was one of the first polymers which attempted to mimic the ocular surface. It is composed of HEMA and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (PC) polymers crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate. PC is similar to phospholipids (e.g., phosphatidylcholine), which are molecules found naturally in human cell membranes. Omafilcon A is claimed to reduce tear evaporation.
