Description Of Item: Clear topped hinged plastic box 180 mm x 100 mm x 42 mm containing black crinkle coated cast metal device with clamp fitting embossed with 'View All' at one end and two highly polished clear plastic domes and a white plastic post with an angled slot attached to a curved section at the other end. Historical Significance: This device is designed by Larry Pompe to be fitted to a slit lamp to enable close examination of contact lenses. The surface of the larger dome is a 35 dioptre sphere and has a dark background with light wall, the smaller dome is a 42 dioptre sphere with a light background and red wall. Lenses can be assessed for deposits by adjusting the illumination of the slit lamp beam. The two different curvatures of the domes allow for a range of lenses to drape evenly over the domes for assessment. The different colours allow detection of different coatings. The post with the angled slot is designed to hold rigid lenses for inspection. How Acquired: Donated by Colin Bates Date Acquired: 17/7/2017 Condition: Good.
