Description Of Item: Black plastic box 165 mm x 135 mm x 50 mm with grey plastic lining containing components of the Soft Lens Power Checker: Lens holder plate, Magnifier, Membrane Slide, 2 spare membranes, Adjusting Knob, Instruction Booklet and snap lock bag containing two pipe cleaners.
Historical Significance: This device was developed by Larry Pompe to provide a relatively simple method of determining the power of soft contact lenses in an optometric practice using a vertometer. The hydrated lens is draped over the lens holder and clamped lightly by the membrane slide and the device placed on the able of the vertometer. The adjustment knob can be used to limit the force applied to the lens by the membrane.
