Historical Significance: Perry Rosenthal, ophthalmologist, Louis Mager, physicist and Joseph Salamone founded Polymer Technology in 1974 when they developed the first silicone acrylate rigid contact lens materials, the first commercial material being Boston IV. Solutions for care and maintenance of the material were developed. Polymer Technology was sold to Bausch and Lomb in 1983.
